Cougar Sightings - 2012
- Tuesday, January 24th, 2012 - in the evening, cougar around the entrance of Blinkhorn Park
- Tuesday, April 24th, 2012 - mid afternoon, cougar took down a deer aggressively on Neild Road, off Happy Valley, left hand side of Zanita
- Tuesday, August 21st, 2012 - large cougar on Pegasus, near Gemini
- Monday, September 10th, 2012 - cougar on Aquarius, between Libra and Gemini
- Thursday, October 25th, 2012 - 883 Kangaroo Road - cougar killed a sheep
- Wednesday, December 12, 2012 - Large cougar roaming around Peddar Bay
- Friday, December 21, 2012 - Cougar killed a deer - 1490 Kangaroo Road

The Municipal Office tracks all cougar sightings for our residents 250-474-3167.The BC Ministry of Environment's Bear Smart Community Program encourages efforts to reduce bear-human conflicts. Some things you can do to help to bear-proof your home:
- keep garbage in the house or shed until pick up day
- don't add meat or cooked food to your compost
- pick ripe fruit and fallen fruit daily
- use bird-feeders only in the winter
- clean your BBQ after each use and store in a secure area
- don't feed pets or store pet food outdoors

Bear Sightings - 2012
- Tuesday, May 28, 2012 - Bear siting around Arden, McVicker and Jelnick. Large black bear.
- Wednesday, May 29, 2012 - Bear siting by 4441 Spellman.
- Friday, June 22, 2012 - Bear siting around Sooke & Impala.
- Monday, June 25, 2012 - Large bear wandering through property - 1400 Block Todd Lane Area.
- Thursday, June 28th - Bear ate chicken at 3700 block Sooke Road.
- Wednesday, July 25th - Bear in backyard in Glen Forest/Sundance area, scared away easily, headed towards Happy Valley Road.
- Friday, July 27th - Bear hanging around 893 Klahanie (just outside Metchosin) was at this address on Wednesday, July 25th as well.
- Monday, July 30th - Bear in yard at 3743 Dallimore.
- Tuesday, August 7th - Bear at the end of Leefield around 1:30pm
- Wednesday, August 8th - Bear around 915 Neff (been around for a few weeks)
- Tuesday, August 14th - Bear around 4400 Lindholm around 6:30am
- Tuesday, October 2nd - Bear spotted at 5225 Rocky Point
- Thursday, October 4th - Bear spotted at various surrounding properties of the Village Centre
